A Look at Adult Day Care – Youtube Video
In an earlier post, I talked about finding an Adult Day Care for Gladys. I found this video on Youtube.com. It is a wonderful look at what is available in Adult Day Care. This facility and its programs are very similar to the Cobb County Senior Adult Center that Gladys attends. Every morning she looks forward to getting up and going to the center.
If you have been wondering what an Adult Day Care is like, take a look at this video.

Sep 2, 2008 - 05:09:52Some things about this video struck me as odd. There was a voice-over, music, interviews with relatives and workers at the facility, and a description of the services offered, but the elders themselves were only videoed but not interviewed. I wanted to know what they thought about their situation. I also wondered about costs. I wondered if the facility got federal or other public monies.
And as a women getting on in years myself, I wondered whether the activities would really interest me. Some of them looked to be at the nursery school or pre-school level.
I must confess to not enjoying forced gregariousness as well, a cranky aspect of me that gets worse with age, so I might object to a lot of the activities in such a place.
Hattie,
This particular Senior Day Center is very much like the one my sister attends. This center, like ours, has a lot of seniors who have some form of dementia. I suspect that the residents may not have been interviewed because of that.
Right. I thought that might be the case. Still, it would have been nice to hear what some of them had to say. My MIL had mild dementia but could be very astute about her own situation.
Hi Valerie – That looks like an awesome centre. I did placements in council run centres and they were nowhere near as nice. Hopefully they’ve improved now though.
It’s great that you’ve found somewhere nice for your sister to go during the day and it will also give you a much needed break.
Valerie, I see we are closer than Remarkablogees. I am also in Cobb County.
Your blog is one I will share with others in my church groups. So many of my peers are full-time care givers for members of their family. It’s nice to know they have a place to share their voices here.
Kathy,
Thanks for visiting and sharing this blog with your church groups. Considering the number of baby boomers out there, I know there have to be a lot of family caregivers as well. We are not getting any younger and our parents are living longer and longer.
There is a “Share Your Story” tab at the top of the page or e-mail is fine for those who don’t like those forms.
Thanks again.
