Care Givers Checklist

Nichole, Fred and I put together a list of things Fred and I would need to take care of Gladys. After she arrived we found that we had omitted a few things, but they were not crucial. Things that are not on this list are groceries and snacks we would need for a diabetic diet.

Things for the house:

  • Handicap equipped bathroom
  • raised toilet seat with hand rails
  • shower seat
  • levered handles on sink, shower and doors
  • walker
  • wheel chair
  • portable toilet
  • night light or equivalent
  • tv trays for meals
  • Things for health care:

  • doctors
  • list of prescriptions
  • podiatrist for diabetic foot care
  • adult day care center
  • letters from doctor for day care and handicap parking tag
  • Legal things:

  • checking account
  • notify social security of her move
  • notify PA Trust Fund (pension) of her move
  • copies of Power of Attorney papers
  • copies of Living Will
  • Georgia ID card
  • Things for travel:

  • tote bag
  • wet wipes
  • Depends
  • tissues
  • lotion
  • granola bars
  • Things to stay out of trouble:

  • handicap parking tag
  • Things to stay sane:

  • Support group (friends to help)
  • Emergency backup caregivers
